A diversified trade union Represents 400,000 workers in two sections Operating Engineers, who work as heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and surveyors in the construction industry, and Stationary Engineers, who work in operations and maintenance in building and industrial complexes, and in the service industries. IUOE also represents a number of public service employees.
The largest local in the IUOE and the largest construction trades local in the United States. Local 3 has about 36,000 members throughout its jurisdiction of northern California, northern Nevada, Utah, Hawaii, Wyoming and portions of South Dakota.
